The Mount, Church St, Shoreham, Sevenoaks TN14 7SD

To make the most of the last days of Summer, my husband and I had a rare day off together and decided to hop on a train to the English countryside. A short 40 minutes took us through fields of golden, yellow and lush green to the quaint village of Shoreham in Kent.

We booked ourselves in for a wine tasting at The Mount Vineyard, which has been producing wines since 2008. Located in the Darent Valley, it has the perfect micro-climate to create stunning vintage wines. As you arrive into the grounds, you are greeted with gorgeously, vibrant vines - there were seven varieties planted across the estate; Pinot Noir, Rondo, Regent, Bacchus, Seyval Blanc, Phoenix and Siegerrebe.

Whilst we waited for our session, we strolled through the beautiful grounds and sat down to take in the views, and we were lucky to have come on a gorgeous day of sunshine. Our host greeted us and showed us to the al-fresco oak terrace which is tucked away for a more private experience. Guests were seated on long wooden tables which were prepped ready with platters of English cheeses and crackers to compliment the wines. The charcoal cheddar was fantastic!

To start we had a light, English sparkling wine followed by a white, rosé and lastly a warm red. The host talked us through each of the wines, giving us insight into the grapes, flavour notes and the production process. The tasting itself lasted around 1.5- 2hrs, and allowed enough time in between wines for everyone to relax and chat to one another.

After the session, we had booked ourselves in for a late lunch at the onsite restaurant which was busy with visitors and locals. With the lovely weather, the roof was open to allow for the fresh Kent air to flow through and to expose the blue skies above. The menu offers an impressive selection of sharing plates as well as delicious stone baked pizzas. We opted for artisan breads, padron peppers, chorizo and seared tuna to start and shared 'The Shoreham Cross' pizza which had toppings of Nduja, chorizo and chilli jam.

We had such a pleasant time at The Mount, I'd highly recommend to spend an afternoon here and it's extremely easy to get to from London.Tastings take place on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays at 12:30 and 14:30 at £35 per person.
