Bun House Disco
118 Bethnal Green Rd, London E2 6DG
Legends of Cantonese buns, Bun House have launched their first East London restaurant in the heart of Brick Lane. Bun House Disco transports you to a 1980's Hong Kong eatery with vibrant lanterns, neon signs and of course a dazzling disco ball!
For those familiar with Bun House, the menu offers their signature steamed buns with classic fillings including pork, chicken and ever popular salted egg yolk custard. I finally gave the lamb bun a chance, and I'm kicking myself for not trying it sooner. It is sublime! The spice of the cumin adds to the moreish flavour, and the combination of the lamb meat with chilli oil is unreal.
The rest of the menu is different to that of the Chinatown restaurant. We opted for the crispy squid an satay beef chilli tater tots - both incredible. The sticky aubergine was only OK, not sure I'd order again. Finally, I couldn't leave without ordering the Kaya French Toast with Jasmine Clotted Cream, a perfectly sweet ending to the meal.
The general vibe of the restaurant gives that Shoreditch edge, however the ambience didn't match the buzz of Chinatown. The meal was great value for money and I'l definitely be back to try more dishes and savour the cocktails.
